Persimmon with elevated sugar: is it possible to eat it?

Diabetes mellitus of the first and second types is declared a problem of the 21st century. The fact is that the number of patients increases annually. The root cause of this is improper nutrition, overloaded with quickly digestible carbohydrates and a passive lifestyle. If a person regularly increases blood sugar, then you need to follow a low-carb diet that will help control the concentration of glucose in the blood.

When glucose levels rise regularly, this may indicate a second type of diabetes or pre-diabetes state. The dominant therapy will be a diet developed by an endocrinologist. Doctors make up a balanced menu with products that have a low glycemic index (GI) and low calorie content. This indicator will show the speed with which glucose enters the blood, after consuming a certain product or drink.

Usually, doctors only talk about basic foodstuffs, forgetting to devote time to overseas delicacies, such as persimmon, for example. Below will be considered the question - is it possible to eat persimmon with an elevated sugar content, how much is permissible in the diet, is this fruit capable of raising low glucose levels during hypoglycemia. Also presented the recipe "persimmon jam" without the use of white sugar.

Glycemic index of persimmon

When a person's sugar content in the blood exceeds the allowable rate, it is necessary to form a daily diet of products with low GI, which does not exceed 50 units. Food with average values, that is, up to 69 units may be present in the menu as an exception, not more than 150 grams twice a week. Food that has a high index value can increase the concentration of glucose in the blood by 4 mmol / l in just a few minutes after its consumption.

It should be borne in mind that the consistency of the product affects the increase in GI. If the fruit is brought to the state of mashed potatoes, its index will increase slightly, but only slightly. The persimmon index varies in average values and this means that during the normal course of the disease, it can be eaten several times a week. Of course, if the diet is not supplemented with other products with an average GI.

In the first type of diabetes, it is important to know how many bread units are contained in persimmon. This is required for the calculation of the injection of short or ultrashort insulin. Per day is permissible to use up to 2.5 XE.

In order to figure out whether it is possible to eat persimmon, all its indicators should be examined. Here they are:

  • the glycemic index is 55 units;
  • calorie per 100 grams of the product will be 67 kcal;
  • the content of bread units per 100 grams is 1 XE;
  • per 100 grams of sugar in persimmon reaches 16.8 grams.

From this it follows that persimmon increases blood sugar, which is why it is allowed in the diabetic diet as an exception.
